West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - As the summer heats up and the West Michigan Whitecaps continue with their current seven-game homestand, the team is counting down to a monumental moment. In the midst of the year-long celebration of the team's 25th season, the Whitecaps are preparing to welcome their 10 millionth fan in franchise history. The team needs just 17,706 fans to pass through the gates to hit the milestone.
Since the Whitecaps' inception in 1994, a total of 9,982,294 fans have passed through the gates of Fifth Third Ballpark. The Whitecaps have averaged more than 412,000 fans per year over the team's 24 seasons and broke the existing Class A Minor League Baseball attendance record in each of their first three seasons, including their highest total to date of 547,401 fans in 1996.
The 10 millionth fan is projected to enter the gates on Friday, June 8. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the game starts at 7:05 p.m. against the South Bend Cubs. It is Princess Night presented by Milk Means More, with plush unicorns being given away to the first 1,000 kids 14 and under. It's also a Family Fare Fireworks night.
Whitecaps officials will be counting fans as they enter the gates, and the lucky 10 millionth fan will win a fantastic prize package worth more than $4,000, including a Whitecaps team jersey, a luxury suite for a game, a $750 food credit at the ballpark, a $200 Ruth's Chris gift card, a night at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, a spa package for two at the Amway, a $50 Celebration Cinema gift card, a Gerrit's Appliance prize package, and a $1,000 Chocolate Milk Grant scholarship to the school of the winner's choice.
In addition, the lucky fan will get a chance after the game to win a grand prize of a 2019 Tigers Spring Training/Walt Disney World/Universal Studios family trip to Florida, worth an additional $4,000.
The Whitecaps' current homestand continues tonight with a 7:05 Tigers Wednesday game, with an appearance by Tigers great Cecil Fielder and Fielder bobbleheads presented by LKQ Grand Rapids for the first 1,000 fans, plus post-game Family Fare Fireworks. Thursday features Van Eerden Social Media Night with a Bluetooth speaker giveaway for the first 500 fans, plus an appearance by World Champion Sumo Wrestlers.
The Whitecaps will finish out the homestand following Friday's game with a day/night doubleheader of two 7-inning games on Saturday (1 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.), then a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, June 10 and a 7:05 p.m. game on Monday, June 11. Tickets are available for any Whitecaps 2018 home contest at the Fifth Third Ballpark Box Office (open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and opens at 10 a.m. on all game days), by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
