Tigers Fall Short in Taber

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers hosted the Calgary Hitmen in Taber for their final preseason match and fell 2-1.

Hitmen veteran forward Josh Prokop had a breakaway midway through the first period and capitalized on the opportunity giving the visitors the lead.

After a scoreless second stanza, Jackson van de Leest made it a 2-0 game for the Hitmen midway through the final frame.

Late in the game, while on the powerplay, Bryan Lockner and Jonathan Brinkman combined to set up Elijah Brown to score the Tabbies' lone goal of the night.

Rookie netminder Garin Bjorklund turned aside 32 of 34 shots faced while Carl Stankowski and Brayden Peters split goaltending duties for Calgary. Stankowski stopped all 22 shots faced while Peters saved 9 out 10.

The Orange and Black finish their preseason with a 2-2-0-0 record. They will open their 50th anniversary season with a home and home series against Central Division Rivals, the Lethbridge Hurricanes. On Friday, September 20th, the Tabbies will pay a visit to the Enmax Centre for a 7:00 PM puck drop. The next night the Tigers will host the 'Canes at the Canalta Centre. Kal Tire is hosting a tailgate party in the Canalta Centre parking lot starting at 5:00 PM with all proceeds going to the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats prior to the 7:30 PM game start to enjoy a 50th anniversary tribute video and listen to the player introductions.
