Thunder to Honor Local Hockey Heroes at Tonight's Game

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, will honor four local heroes at tonight's game against Reading. The four heroes will be honored on the ice prior to tonight's game. The ceremony is run as an extension of Hockey Weekend Across America, which was held last weekend. The four local hockey heroes who will be honored tonight are Darryl Coltey, Brendan Greenwood, Fred Quackenbush and Sue DiDio.
Darryl Coltey has coached with the Adirondack Youth Hockey Association for 17 years, where he has been the Tournament Director for the Winter Classic hockey tournament for the last nine years. Under Coltey's direction, the Winter Classic has become one the oldest and largest "girls only" hockey tournaments in New York and over the past 12 years, the tournament has raised over $52,000 for various causes. Through his involvement with AYHA and the Adirondack Northstars, Coltey has helped grow girls' hockey in the Adirondack region.
Brendan Greenwood has a great asset to Adirondack Youth Hockey and has been involved with the organization for six years. Greenwood has dedicated his time to coach the teams his children play on throughout the years and he volunteers his time playing music or providing public address during other AYHA games, a service he also provides for local high school hockey teams. Greenwood, also a member of the AYHA Board of Directors, also provides skate sharpening services for youth hockey players in the area.
Fred Quackenbush has been a season ticket holder for hockey in the Adirondacks since the Red Wings came to Glens Falls in 1979 and has always been a strong supporter of hockey in the region. Quackenbush has also been a member of the Adirondack Hockey Booster Club since its inception and still serve on the Booster Club's board today. Quackenbush can be found around the Civic Center in his Season Seats in Section A, listening to Cameron Close's call on Hits 95.9 as he watches the Thunder on the ice.
Sue DiDio has worked at the Glens Falls Civic Center for over 25 years, dating back to the early days of the Adirondack Red Wings. DiDio has worked in concessions at the Civic Center from the start and is now in charge preparing arena concessions for all events, including Thunder hockey, as the Concessions Manager. DiDio works 12-hour days during events to ensure that all concessions are ready for fans to enjoy on game day.
The Thunder are back in action this weekend as they host the Reading Royals in a back-to-back set. The series kicks off on tonight at 7:00 p.m. and concludes with the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame inductions on Sunday afternoon as Ted Nolan and Dave Hanson are honored as some of the area's finest alumni.
