February 27, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Spencer Pommels and Taylor Doherty provided a goal and an assist apiece and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel kick-started a run of three unanswered Rapid City Rush goals with what proved to be the game winner as the Rush (22-27-5) defeated the host Quad City Mallards (25-23-5) 5-2 Saturday night .
With the loss the Mallards fell to fourth place in the ECHL's Midwest Division and tenth place in the Western Conference and had to settle for a split of their two-game weekend series with Rapid City.
The Rush outscored the Mallards 3-1 during a wild five minute and 57 second stretch in the second period and emerged from the second with a 4-2 lead. Rapid City's Cody Ferriero snapped a 1-1 deadlock by tipping the puck in at 7:45 of the second. The Mallards' Olivier Archambault evened the score at two with a backhander from slot just at 9:46 but the Rush would retake the lead just over a minute later with Dieude-Fauvel's power play blast from the top of the left wing circle. Both teams were down a man when Doherty rifled in the fourth Rapid City goal from the top of the right circle goal at the 13:42 mark.
Destry Straight capped off the Rush victory by redirecting the final goal of the night from the doorstep nine minutes into the third period.
The Rush had first moved in front when Pommells walked in alone to score the opening goal just one minute and 54 seconds into the game. Matt Carey swooped down the slot to score a spectacular equalizer for the Mallards at 14:24 of the first period.
The Mallards return to action on home ice next Wednesday night against the Utah Grizzlies. All Mallards Wednesday night home games this season face off at the special early start time of 6:35 p.m.
