Three Goal Second Period Lifts Walleye to a 5-2 Win over Greenville

(Toledo, OH) A standing room only crowd of 8,300 cheered on the Walleye to a 5-2 win over Greenville Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 34-14-2-3 and 21-5-1-0 at home. The Walleye have won 11 consecutive home games.

Neither team would score in the first period that saw Greenville out shoot Toledo 15-6. At 7:14 of the second period, Josh Nicholls put Greenville in front with a shorthanded goal. The Swamp Rabbits made it 2-0 at 12:52 of the second period.

Toledo started its comeback at 14:32 when A.J. Jenks took a Shane Berschbach pass and buried his 20th goal of the season. While on the power play the Walleye tied the game as Scott Czarnowczan picked up his 4th goal of the season at 18:55. Just 29 seconds after that Tyler Sikura (11th) went between the pads of Greenville goaltender Mackenzie Skapski for a 3-2 lead.

Shane Berschbach (22nd) extended his goal scoring streak to five straight games with an empty net goal at 19:19 of the third period. Josh Shalla put a cap on the night by scoring with just seven seconds remaining.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg picked up 28 saves and his record improves to 22-6-1-2. The win was the 11th straight at home which is a Walleye record. Shane Berschbach has at least one goal in five straight games and a point in seven straight. The standing room only crowd was the 14th sellout of the season, also a Walleye record.
