NORFOLK, Va. - Despite Norfolk's monumental comeback in the third period, Joey Diamond's 4-goal game pushed Manchester to a 5-4 victory Saturday night at Scope Arena.

Tension on the ice was high between the Conference-leading Monarchs and the Admirals, who, after topping the Monarchs in regulation Friday night, 6-1, were looking to duplicate that effort.

Neither team tallied a goal during the first 20 minutes of play. But, midway through the second period, Troy Power would get the ball rolling for Manchester. Power netted a power-play goal at 9:25 to put Manchester up, 1-0. Then, at 12:21, Joey Diamond buried his first of four goals.

The Admirals pushed back hard, and after gaining some momentum, answered by slipping one past Monarch netminder Colin Stevens at 17:01 of the middle frame. Jonathan Lessard gave the Admirals life with his 14th of the season from the low slot.

Just 1:38 later, Diamond would grab his second at 18:39 of the middle frame. Later, rounding out his natural hat trick 3:00 into the third period, Diamond pushed the Monarchs out to a 4-1 lead. The Admirals would not be put at bay so easily, though. Scoring three goals just 6:34 apart in the third, Greg Chase, Maxime Legault, and Michael Pelech would tie things at four apiece.

However, the fire was extinguished after Diamond gobbled up a turnover in the Norfolk zone and scored the eventual game-winning goal with just 52 seconds left in regulation. The Admirals were unable to respond before time trickled out, falling 5-4 to the Monarchs and splitting their weekend series, 1-1.

The Admirals will be back at Scope to host Adirondack Thursday, March 3 at 7:15 p.m.

Three Stars:

1. MAN - 32 Diamond

2. NOR - 23 Pelech

3. NOR - 15 Chase
