Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (47-35) swept a doubleheader from the Portland Sea Dogs (34-49) Monday night at Hadlock Field. Luke Murton hit a pair of home runs in the twinbill for Trenton. The Yankees affiliate won a 12-4 blowout in game one and took game two 5-3 with a two run seventh inning. Trenton has taken the first three games of the four game set.

In game one, Melky Mesa went 4-for-4 with four runs scored leading a 13 hit offensive attack including two home runs from the Trenton Thunder as they defeated the Sea Dogs 12-4.

The Thunder tagged Portland starter Chris Martin (3-5) for six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 2.2 innings. In the second inning Jose Gil ripped a two run double scoring Mesa and Luke Murton (2-for-3 with 3 RBI) as the Yankees affiliate took a 2-0 lead. Trenton would explode for four runs in the third taking a 6-0 lead highlighted by RBI singles from Addison Maruszak and Mesa.

The Sea Dogs cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth when Drew Hedman blasted a three run homer over the Sea Dogs bullpen. The home run was Hedman's second since joining the Sea Dogs on June 27th.

Trenton responded by belting two home runs in the fifth. Zoilo Almonte hit a solo shot and Murton blasted a two run homer, his 15th of the season extending the Thunder lead to 9-4. Both home runs came off Caleb Clay.

Brett Marshall (9-3) earned his team leading ninth win firing five innings allowing three runs on five hits.

Josh Fields pitched a perfect seventh for the Sea Dogs.

In game two the Trenton Thunder broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh. Jeff Farnham doubled scoring Damon Sublett as the Thunder took a 4-3 lead. Trenton added an insurance run when Kyle Higashioka delivered a RBI single.

Both runs came off Portland starter Jeremy Kehrt (2-2) who lasted 6.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits.

The Sea Dogs struck first in game two when Derrik Gibson scored on a Zach Gentile sacrifice fly.

Jose Pirela hit his fourth home run, a two run shot; off Jeremy Kehrt in the top of the third inning as Trenton took a 2-1 lead.

Portland tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a Peter Hissey RBI single to score Bryce Brentz.

Both teams exchanged runs in the fourth. Luke Murton hit his second home run of the night and 14th of the season. While Drew Hedman scored on a Bradley Jr. ground out.

Danny Farquhar (1-1) earned the win tossing two no-hit innings of relief and notching three strikeouts. Jon Meloan earned his first save tossing a scoreless ninth.

Bradley Jr. collected a hit in each game and has now hit safely in 11 of 13 starts with the Sea Dogs.

The series and the homestand will conclude on Wednesday with a 6:00 PM start including post-game fireworks, courtesy of Southern Maine Motors. Right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo (1-2, 6.23) is scheduled to pitch for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by Trenton lefty Shaeffer Hall (6-6, 3.97).
