Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels today announced that their game with the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday, July 4th, and the Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Kroger, the Heart of Virginia Chevrolet Dealers, Verizon Wireless, and 102.1 The X has officially sold out. Tickets for the Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Extravaganza on Thursday, July 5th, still remain; however, only a limited number of Diamond Club seats are still available.

"We have really enjoyed being a part of the Fourth of July tradition in Richmond over the past couple of years," said Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "It's hard to believe that this will be our third Fourth of July celebration at The Diamond, but hopefully it'll be our best one yet. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that we get some good weather!"

Severe storms caused the Flying Squirrels' last home game against the New Britain Rock Cats on Monday, June 25th to be called in the top of the eighth inning as the left field fence was toppled by high winds. The team embarked on its longest road trip of the season - eight games - the following day giving the organization ample time to get repairs done prior to the July 4th contest with the B-Mets.

"Even with the severe weather this past weekend, there were no setbacks and everything is on as scheduled for when the team returns home on Wednesday," added Parnell. "I can't say enough about the way our staff handled that scary situation and the efforts made by the folks who are repairing the fence ensuring that we will be ready to go on the Fourth of July."

In addition to an extended post-game fireworks show on July 4th, the Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center will present the colors on horseback as the Richmond Symphony Chorus performs the National Anthem. Sophia Nadder will sing "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch.

The sellout on July 4th will be the third of the season for the Flying Squirrels and the 18th overall in the three-year history of the franchise. The club sold out nine games during its inaugural season in 2010 and six games during the 2011 season. The official capacity of The Diamond is 9,560.

The Flying Squirrels second Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Kroger, the Heart of Virginia Chevrolet Dealers, Verizon Wireless, and Q94 on Tuesday, July 5th, will also feature a special extended fireworks show. Gates open at 6:00 PM and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Flying Squirrels will wear special "Stars and Stripes" jerseys on July 4th and 5th and the jerseys will be auctioned off during the club's home game on Wednesday, August 8th.

The Flying Squirrels will host a special Friday Night Fireworks Show presented by Capital Ale House, and 98.9 Liberty on July 6th. Gates open at 6:00 PM and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Individual game tickets for the remaining Flying Squirrels' 2012 home games are currently available and can be purchased by calling (804) 359-FUNN (3866), visiting the Flying Squirrels' Ticket Office at The Diamond or logging on to SquirrelsBaseball.com.
