New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
READING, Pa. - Brad Glenn continued his assault on Eastern League pitchers since returning from the DL last week. The slugger blasted his tenth home run and went 2-4 to power the Fisher Cats (32-49) to a 6-3 win over the Reading Phillies (46-36) at FirstEnergy Stadium. The victory is the Fisher Cats fourth of their road trip, leaving them with one more game to go in Reading on Tuesday.
Glenn started the scoring with his tenth homer of the season to lead off the second, a towering shot to deep left field. The blast was his third since coming back from injury and gave New Hampshire a 1-0 lead.
An inning later, the Fisher Cats scored three more times beginning with Mike McDade's 13th home run to begin the inning. The next three men reached to load the bases before Kevin Howard brought home a run with a double play. Jack Murphy then reached on a two-out error to make it a 4-0 advantage.
The fourth inning brought another pair of runs against starter and losing pitcher Julio Rodriguez (5-2). For the fourth straight inning, the first two men of the inning reached. Ryan Goins scored on a single from McDade. Two batters later a groundout plated the final Fisher Cats run for a 6-0 lead.
Deck McGuire (W; 4-9) had more than enough run support with the big early lead. He allowed just one hit through the first three innings. In the fourth, McGuire suffered his only hiccup. A pair of walks led to a three-run homer by Leandro Castro to cut the deficit to 6-3. McGuire would retire six of the next seven without incident to secure his second consecutive win. The bullpen pitched the final four innings allowing just two hits.
Glenn finished the night with a double and a homer, the tenth in each category for the slugger. McDade was 2-5 while Goins reached base five times with a pair of singles and three walks. Mark Sobolewski was 0-4 to end his nine-game hit streak.
The Fisher Cats will now wrap up their eight-game road trip on Tuesday night from Reading. RHP Yohan Pino (4-3, 3.34) takes the ball against Reading RHP Jordan Whatcott (1-1, 3.00) at 7:05 PM. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home to begin a fireworks-filled seven-game, six-day homestand starting on the 4th of July against the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs. Beginning with the Fourth, the Fisher Cats will host five consecutive nights of Atlas Fireworks during the stand. For the complete list of promotions and to order tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
