
Texas Stars Sign Defenseman Jeff May to PTO

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jeff May to a professional tryout contract.
May, 26, began the season with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, where he ranked third on the team with 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) and 19 penalty minutes in 21 games played. The Richmond, British Columbia native is currently tied for the league lead amongst defensemen in goals and is tied for third in points. May was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and he has appeared in 265 career pro games, including in 141 career AHL games with Norfolk, Providence and San Antonio, recording 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) and 122 penalty minutes. He spent the 2012-13 season in France, playing for Augers in the Ligue Magnus, where the Eagle-Owls won the regular season title, but lost in the 2013 Ligue Magnus Finals to the Rouen Dragons in seven games.
The six-foot-two, 205-pound defenseman played parts of six seasons of major junior hockey with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 310 career WHL games May had 143 points (19 goals, 124 assists) and 338 penalty minutes. He helped Prince Albert reach the 2005 WHL Conference Finals and Lethbridge reach the 2008 WHL Championship, losing to the Spokane Chiefs in four games. He represented Las Vegas at the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game and helped lead the Wranglers to the 2012 Western Conference Championship and a berth into the 2012 Kelly Cup Finals; Las Vegas lost in the Finals to the Florida Everblades in five games.
The Texas Stars host the Chicago Wolves tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
