Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Louis Leblanc made it rain teddy bears at 11:01 of the second period during Friday night's Toy Toss at Copps Coliseum, but that was all the offense the 'Dogs (12-11-0-3) could muster as they fell 4-1 to the Toronto Marlies (13-9-1-0).
Toronto forward Spencer Abbott opened the scoring 11:08 into the first period, with defenceman Andrew MacWilliam and forward Kory Nagy drawing assists.
Nagy notched the first of three Toronto goals in a 3:11 second span during the second period when he potted his first goal as a Marlie 7:24 into the middle stanza. Forward David Broll and Abbott earned assists on the play.
Less than two minutes later, Marlies defenceman T.J. Brennan scored on the power play to put Toronto ahead 3-0, assisted by defenceman Stuart Percy and Abbott.
Just 1:32 after that, forward Brad Ross gave the Marlies a 4-0 lead, with assists from forwards Tyler Biggs and Jerred Smithson.
Leblanc scored his eighth goal of the season 26 second later to get Hamilton on the board and sent countless stuffed animals from Bulldogs fans down to the ice. Forwards Martin St. Pierre and Mike Blunden notched assists on the play.
The Bulldogs outshot the Marlies 12-4 in the final frame as they made a strong push to narrow the 4-1 deficit, but that's as close as Hamilton would get.
Robert Mayer made 20 saves on 24 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Drew MacIntyre made 28 saves on 29 shots for the Marlies in the win.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Marlies went 1-for-3.
