December 13, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
The Oklahoma City Barons battled back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits in the first period to tie the score early in the second, but Brad Winchester's second goal of the game put Rockford in front for good in a 4-3 win over the Barons on Friday in the first of a two-game set at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Ill.
Winchester's winning goal, his eighth tally of the season, came at 11:41 of the second period as Oklahoma City loses in Rockford for the first time in club history. The Barons entered Friday's game 7-0-0-0 all-time in Rockford.
Rookie goalie Mac Carruth (1-1-0) earned his first AHL win by stopping 27 of 30 Oklahoma City shots. Laurent Brossoit, who faced Carruth in the past two Western Hockey League championship series with each winning one title, stopped 26 of 30 shots in falling to 2-4-0 with the Barons and 2-5-0 in the AHL this season.
Rockford out-scored the Barons 3-2 in a wide-open first period. Brandon Pirri opened the scoring at 1:24 by banking a centering pass off David Musil after Brossoit missed the puck back of the net. The IceHogs made it 2-0 at 3:13 when Winchester tipped in a shot from the point by Viktor Svedberg.
The Barons answered that to make it 2-1 when Andrew Miller spun around and put home a rebound at 7:41 from Linus Omark and Martin Gernat. Rockford made it 3-1 on a Garret Ross tip of a shot from the left-wing boards by Klas Dahlbeck at 11:45.
Oklahoma City's Ryan Hamilton replied with a rebound from the doorstep while being knocked down at 15:05, converting after assists by Travis Ewanyk and Oscar Klefbom. The Barons drew even for the first time since it was 0-0 when Kale Kessy tipped a shot by Ewanyk at 3:14 of the third to level the score at 3-3. Gernat earned the second assist. Gernat and Ewanyk each had two assists in the game which dropped the Barons record to 1-3-0-1 on this six-game road trip and 10-14-0-4 on the campaign.
Rockford took a one-goal advantage into the second intermission, 4-3, as Winchester raced up ice and beat Brossoit low glove side for the eventual winner at 11:41. Rockford has won two straight and improves to 14-11-2-0.
The same two teams meet in Rockford on Saturday at 7 pm CST. Oklahoma City's next home game is Dec. 20 against Texas at the Cox Convention Center.
