Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Binghamton dropped its sixth consecutive game tonight in a 5-2 loss to the Utica Comets. Despite leading 2-1 early in the second period, the hosts were able to pull out the victory behind a four point (three goals, one assist) performance from left winger Colin Stuart.
Utica was able to strike first as Stuart registered his first tally of the game on a power-play goal 7:48 into the opening period. Binghamton drew things even less than three minutes later when they put a power-play goal past Comets goaltender Joacim Eriksson. Derek Grant managed to tip a wrister from Stephane Da Costa past Eriksson leveling the score at 1-1. Binghamton outshot Utica 19-8 in the opening 20 minutes but carried the tie into the first intermission.
The B-Sens got its only lead of the game 3:47 into the middle frame when defenseman Mark Borowiecki scored his first goal of the season off assists from Corey Cowick and Wacey Hamilton. However, just 25 seconds later the Comets tied things up when Cal O'Reilly notched his second goal of the year. Utica added another power-play goal, this time from Darren Archibald with less than two minutes remaining in the second to carry a 3-2 lead into the final intermission.
Utica extended its lead just 2:43 into the final period when Stuart added his second goal of the game off a feed from Patrick Mullen giving the hosts the 4-2 advantage. With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Stuart put home his third of the game on a fast break opportunity off a feed from O'Reilly extending the B-Sens losing streak to six straight games.
Binghamton net minder Andrew Hammond finished with 28 saves on 33 shots while Eriksson slammed the door on 42 of 44 B-Sens chances. Stuart finished with three goals and an assist to lead the Comets while teammates O'Reilly and Archibald both finished with a goal and an assist.
Binghamton travels to Pennsylvania tomorrow to take on division rival the Hershey Bears in a 7:00p.m. contest.
