P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 4-3 in Shootout

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 4-3 Friday Night in a shootout at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Andrew Cherniwchan, David Warsofsky and Alexander Fallstrom scored in regulation, while Fallstrom tallied in the shootout. Niklas Svedberg made 13 saves for the - - victory.

In the opening period, Portland took the early lead at the 2:48 mark when Chris Brown put the puck just inside the post for his fifth goal of the season. Darian Dziurzynski had the assist. Providence evened the score at the 9:14 mark when Cherniwchan, who signed a professional try out contract earlier in the day, took a shot from the left faceoff circle that went past Pirates goaltender Louis Domingue blocker side for his first goal of the season. Assists went to Fallstrom and Mike Moore. The P-Bruins found themselves shorthanded moments later and the Pirates scored at the 13:41 mark as Daine Todd beat Svedberg for his second goal of the season. Assists went to Andy Miele and Brandon Gormley as Portland took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the P-Bruins tied the game at two at the 8:20 mark when Warsofsky wristed the puck right in front of Domingue as it trickled past him and into the net. Jared Knight and Seth Griffith each had assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at two.

Portland retook the lead at the 9:12 mark of the third period, while on the power play. Keven Veilleux scored his first goal of the season with Gormley and Brendan Shinnimin getting the assists. With time running out in the game and Svedberg pulled for the extra attached the P-Bruins tied the game at the 19:30 mark. Fallstrom scored his second goal of the season with Bobby Robins and Ben Youds recording the assists as the game went into overtime tied at three.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. Fallstrom scored in the second round, while Svedberg kept Portland off the scoreboard as the P-Bruins went onto the 4-3 shootout victory.

Svedberg stopped 13 of 16 shots in regulation and all five shots in the shootout, while Dominque made 25 saves in regulation and three saves in the shootout for the Pirates. Providence was 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Providence travels to Bridgeport Saturday to take on the Sound Tigers at 7:00pm before returning to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05pm against the Springfield Falcons.
