Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Goaltender Jack Campbell made 27 saves to earn his fourth win of the season in as many games and the AHL's top-rated power play cashed in twice as the Texas Stars beat the Chicago Wolves 2-1 Friday night in front of 5,291 fans at Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Stars left wing Mike Hedden put the first point on the board at 9:14 in the second frame. Jyrki Jokipakka took a wrist shot from the point and Hedden tipped it in from the slot for a power play goal, his eighth goal of the year. Four minutes later Travis Morin upped the ante with another Texas power play goal. Morin blasted home a shot from the right circle into the roof of the net, assisted by Chris Mueller and Maxime Fortunus at 13:37. The goal was Morin's 12th of the season and his 30th point, which tied him with Colton Sceviour for second in the AHL in points. Fortunus' assist on the goal extended his current assist and point streak to four games.
With 7:23 left in the final frame, Wolves defenseman Jani Hakanpaa put Chicago in the game, scoring from the high slot, catching goalie Jack Campbell out of his net after a scramble down low. Campbell and the Stars clamped down and held off a late charge by the Wolves as they secured their fifth straight home victory and improved to 11-2-0-1 (23 pts.) on home ice this year.
Jack Campbell stopped 27-of-28 shots faced and got the win for Texas, improving to a perfect 4-0-0 in four starts on the season. Chicago goaltender Jake Allen finished with 24 saves on 26 shots and took the loss for Chicago. The Wolves out-shot the Stars 28-26 in the game and went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Texas finished 2-for-5 with the man-advantage.
Texas will travel to San Antonio on Sunday, December 15th for a 4:00 p.m. faceoff with the Rampage at AT&T Center. The Stars return home to host San Antonio on Wednesday, December 18th at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center. Wednesday's game is H-E-B Food Drive Night and another Winning Wednesday.
