
Sundogs Sign D-Man Blatchford, Waive Grenache

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has signed former University of Notre Dame defenseman Brett Blatchford and has waived rookie forward Samuel Grenache.
Blatchford, 24, joins the Sundogs after appearing in seven combined games with the Central Hockey League's Texas Brahmas and the ECHL's Toledo Walleye this season.
Following a four-year playing career at the University of Notre Dame, the 6-foot, 198-pound d-man appeared in two games with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Chicago Wolves and skated in seven regular season games with the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) tallying one assist and two PIM.
Originally from Temperance, Michigan, Blatchford appeared in 153 career collegiate contests with Notre Dame, scoring six goals and adding 67 assists. During his time at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish secured two Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) titles and competed in the NCAA Division I National Championship Game.
Prior to his collegiate career, Blatchford skated with the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) from 2003-2006, helping the junior club to back-to-back-to-back National Championships. In 2005-06, he led all NAHL defenseman in scoring with three goals and 46 assists.
Grenache appeared in 24 games with the Sundogs this season recording two points (1g/1a) and 72 penalty minutes (PIM).
Blatchford is expected to join the team in Texas as it begins a five-game road trip with four games in five days starting Tuesday at 6:00pm (Arizona time) against the Laredo Bucks.
