Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Levente Szuper allowed one goal on 35 shots and the Arizona Sundogs snapped a 12-game road winless streak, earning two points on the road for the first time since December 11 with a 2-1 win over the Laredo Bucks Tuesday night at Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas.
With the win, the Sundogs move five points ahead of the Bucks and leapfrog the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees into seventh place in the Berry Conference, one point ahead of the team they play tomorrow morning at 9:30am (Arizona time).
Luke Erickson extended his current point streak to eight games with his team-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season, lifting a rebound over Torrie Jung with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period. Signed earlier in the day, defenseman Brett Blatchford assisted on the play along with Mark Kolanos.
Opening a stretch of games that will see them play two contests in 15 hours and four games in five days, the Sundogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Jason Visser's seventh goal of the year from Adam Smyth and Morgan MacLean 11:07 into the contest.
Daniel Koger tallied the Bucks' lone goal, sliding a backhand effort inside the near post and past Szuper with 43 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Just 10 minutes in penalties were handed out amongst the two teams. The Sundogs finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage while Laredo was scoreless on three power plays.
The Sundogs improve to 3-1-1 in their last five games.
Arizona (22-27-9) sits just two points back of sixth-place Mississippi and three points back of fifth-place Odessa with eight games remaining in the regular season.
