Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV ¬" The Wheeling Nailers are proud to announce that forward Ben Street and goaltender Patrick Killeen have been selected to participate in the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic. The game will take place on January 26, 2011, at Radobank Arena in Bakersfield California.
Street is currently the Nailers leading scorer with 30 points (13g, 17a). Street is second in the league in shots on goal with 141, while leading all rookies in that category. He is tied for first in rookie scoring as well. Prior to Wheeling, Street was a standout player at the University of Wisconsin. Last season his 30 points helped lead the Badgers to Frozen Four National Championship game.
Killeen is second in league in wins with 12. The Nailers netminder has posted solid numbers in his rookie season, posting a 12-6 record with a 2.56 goals against average, and a .911 save percentage. He recorded his first career shutout in his first professional start on October 16 at Toledo. The shutout helped earn him the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week honors for opening weekend. Killeen was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-2010.
Players selected for the ECHL All-Star Classic were voted by league coaches. This year's format features the host team the Bakersfield Condors, playing the ECHL All Stars. There have been 52 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 36 since 2002.
The Nailers next home game is Saturday January 8 against the Reading Royals. The first 1,000 kids aged 14 and under will receive a free Nailers back pack courtesy of BB&T. Today is the deadline for purchasing holiday packs for great savings. To purchase game tickets, or holiday packs call 304-234-GOAL, or 877-NAIL-TIX.
