
Royals Goaltender Ben Scrivens Selected as ECHL All-Star

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Ben Scrivens has been selected to represent the Royals in the ECHL All-Star Classic presented by CCM, which is to be held January 26, 2011 in Bakersfield, California. This year's format has the host team, the Bakersfield Condors, taking on a team comprised o ECHL All-Stars.
Scrivens, a first year pro from Spruce Grove, Alberta, has compiled a record of 8-3-0-0 in eleven games with Reading this season. Scrivens is riding a seven game win streak with the Royals, which ties a team record established by goaltender Cody Rudkowsky in the 2004-05 season. Scrivens' 2.18 goals against average is currently second best in the ECHL; and his .936 save percentage leads the league. Scrivens is currently on recall to the Marlies where he has gone 2-1-1 in five games played (3.14 gaa) (.897 save %). Scrivens is the third goaltender to be selected to represent the Royals in the ECHL All-Star game, joining Barry Brust (2005 in Reading) and Cody Rudkowsky (2006 in Fresno, California) to be so honored.
The Royals take on the Florida Everblades tonight (Thursday, December 30 @ 7:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center in Reading. The Royals will turn back the clock that night and the first 2000 fans will receive a Tenth Anniversary commemorative pin. The Royals game night broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm.
