Thunder Signs Forward Jarrett Konkle
December 30, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, has signed right winger Jarrett Konkle (KAWN-kull), Thunder head coach Matt Thomas announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Konkle, who returns the ECHL and is reunited with Thomas when both were with the Fresno Falcons from 2007-09, will suit up for the Thunder tonight, who host the Las Vegas Wranglers at Stockton Arena, beginning at 7:00 p.m. (StocktonThunder.com).
¬ÅJarrett is a valuable offensive commodity that we've been missing lately, ¬Â said Thomas. ¬ÅHe knows how to score at this level and I'm familiar with what he's brought before as a part of my previous teams. We'll be looking forward his contributions with his skill, shot release and nose for the net. ¬Â
Konkle, 28, enters his fifth ECHL season after starting 2010-11 with HK Partizan Beograd in Serbia, scoring 17 goals and 29 points (17g-12a) in 16 games.
The 6-foot, 182-pound forward suited up last season for the Alaska Aces, Elmira Jackals and Johnstown Chiefs, scoring 44 points (15g-29a) in 57 ECHL games while posting 39 penalty minutes. As a member of the Aces, he was second in playoff scoring, collecting seven points (3g-4a) in four games when the Thunder defeated Alaska, 3-1, in the best-of-five first round series.
He previously played for Thomas during two seasons (2007-09), scoring 62 points (31g-31a) in 71 career games with the Fresno Falcons.
The Toronto, Ontario native has totaled 158 points (68g-90a) in 207 career ECHL games, spanning four seasons (2006-10) with Alaska, Elmira, Johnstown, Fresno and South Carolina. Konkle has also skated in 13 AHL games with the Binghamton Senators, grabbing three points (1g-2a) and was named to the UHL All-Star Team in 2006 with Elmira.
That year, Konkle set a Jackals UHL record with 37 goals, also ranking second on the team with 62 points (37g-25a) in 74 games.
A two-time recipient of the ECHL ¬ÅAward of Excellence, ¬Â Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons, was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10. Season Tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets for 2010-11 are on sale now.
