South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that defenseman Josh Godfrey has been named to the 2011 ECHL All-Star team for the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic presented by CCM on January 26, 2011 in Bakersfield, California.
Godfrey, 22, ranks first among active ECHL defensemen with nine goals and five power play markers. In 24 games with the Stingrays this season, the Collingwood, ON native has 13 points (9g, 4a) and 10 penalty minutes. Since joining the Stingrays for the 2008-09 season, Godfrey knocked in 54 points (19g, 35a) in 90 games and helped the Stingrays capture their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup championship in 2009. Prior to turning pro, the 2nd round draft pick (34th overall) by the Washington Capitals in 2007 spent four seasons in the OHL starring for Guelph and Sault St. Marie. While with the Greyhounds, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman recorded 119 points (47g, 72a) in 158 games.
The ECHL All-Star Classic presented by CCM features the Bakersfield Condors, the host of the 2011 event, battling the ECHL All-Stars. The contest marks the second time in the 19-year history of the ECHL All-Star Classic that the host team will play together. During the 1997 contest, the Charlotte Checkers defeated the ECHL All-Stars 7-6.
The Stingrays and Greenville Road Warriors close out a three-game series on Friday, December 31 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
