November 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Four separate players scored goals to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to their third win in a row by cruising past the Augusta Lynx 4-1 at the James Brown Arena.
South Carolina (6-3-0, 12 points) opened the score in the first minute of the contest. Cail MacLean spotted rookie defenseman Viktor Dovgan in the slot and he beat goaltender Brett Jaeger for his first professional goal 54 seconds into the game.
Later in the first, Stingrays leading scorer Matt Reid left the game with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
"Things went our way offensively tonight," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "We got the lead early and gained a lot of confidence from Dovgan's first goal. We're getting nice contributions from all lines and distributing the scoring nicely. We're going to need that with Reid expected to miss seven to 10 days."
The Stingrays made it 2-0 at the 11:20 mark of the first. Peter Szabo got a piece of a point shot from Nate Kiser to get credit for his first of the campaign. Jarrett Konkle also collected an assist.
Ryan Bennett, who played gave South Carolina a 3-0 lead by working hard tallying an unassisted shorthand goal 31 seconds into the second period for his third marker of the season.
Augusta (4-5-0, 8 points) got on the scoreboard on a wraparound from veteran Joe Cardarelli as he snuck the puck past Davis Parley. The goal at 8:03 of the middle stanza was assisted by Shane Hynes and Sean Blanchard.
The Stingrays regained their three-goal cushion in the final minute of the second. Josh Anderson netted his first of the season off a pass from Evan Schwabe on a 2-on-1 break. MacLean also picked up his second helper of the game.
South Carolina went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Augusta converted on 1-of-5 chances with the man advantage. Lynx outshot the Stingrays 33-25.
