Gladiators Lose in Overtime at Texas 5-4

The Gladiators dropped their second consecutive overtime game as Texas' Mike Bayrack flipped a backhand over the shoulder of Dan Turple for the game winning marker just 1:52 into overtime to cap a two goal come from behind win for the Wildcatters. Texas beat Gwinnett 5-4 for the win as Gwinnett now falls to 6-1-3 on the season with 15 points. Luis Tremblay and Matt Yeats had the assists on the game winning goal for Texas.

Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead on Colton Fretter's 8th goal of the season on the power play. Parked in the slot, Fretter beat Texas netminder Matt Yeats from point-blank range in the slot off a feed from Brad Schell in the right wing circle. Jeff Campbell also had an assist on the marker just 4:12 into the first period.

Texas answered with a pair of first period goals to take a 2-1 lead to the first intermission. Kevin Baker posted the Wildcatters' first goal of the game as he beat Gwinnett netminder Dan Turple with a slap shot from 25 feet out. Leon Hayward collected an assist on the goal at the 13:28 mark of the first period.

Daniel Sparre gave Texas a 2-1 lead beating Turple from point blank range in the slot for the tally. Brandin Cote found Sparre wide open in the slot to set up the marker. JF David also had an assist on the goal at 14:38 of the first period.

Jon Awe posted his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at two at the 7:41 mark of the second period. Schell fed Awe at the point where the blueliner ripped a slapshot past Yeats for the power play goal.

Mike Vigilante gave the Gladiators a 3-2 lead late in the second period as corralled a bouncing puck in the left wing face off circle and ripped a snap shot past Yeats for the goal. Chad Painchaud and Andy Contios hooked up to pick up the assists on the goal at the 16:50 mark of the second period.

Fretter added his second goal of the night to push the Gladiators lead to two goals with just 1:49 left in the middle period. Parked in the slot, Fretter took a pass from Campbell and beat Yeats to the far post with a wrist shot for the goal.

Texas answered with two third period goals to send the game to overtime. Mark Rooneem posted the first Wildcatters goals taking advantage of an unsettled Gladiators defense and beat Turple at the 4:27 mark of the third period. Leon Hayward and Luis Tremblay collected the assists on the goal for Texas.

Sparre posted his second goal of the game for Texas with 4:29 left in the third period to tied the game at four. Oliver Proulx collected an assist on the goal as he moved the puck up the win to Sparre to set up the marker.

Turple finished with 31 saves for the Gladiators in the loss as Gwinnett dropped its third consecutive extra session contest this season. Gwinnett went 2-for-5 on the power play in the overtime loss.
