Wheeling Nailers News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Wheeling Nailers (3-6-0) started their season winless in their first five games on the road but ended that streak tonight with a win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-5-0). The Nailers scored just 4:22 into the game and never relinquished the lead and Andy Franck stopped 24 of the 25 shots sent his way.

Kurtis McLean notched his, team leading, seventh goal of the season on the Nailers first power play. Coming into the game, Cincinnati had the best penalty-killing percentage in the ECHL. McLean banged home a Joe Jensen rebound at the 4:42 mark to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Bo Cheesman intercepted a pass in the Cincinnati end and ripped a wrist shot past Dov Grumet-Morris.

The Cyclones would cut the Nailer lead to one at 7:55 of the second period. With Daniel Fernholm in the box for tripping, Cory Urquhart scored on a rebound shot. It was his eighth goal of the season.

The final goal of the game came just before the end of the second period. The Nailers scored their second power-play goal of the game off the stick of Jordan Cameron. Jensen and Sean Collins were given assists on the play.

The Nailers and Cyclones play the second game of the series on Saturday night at 7:30pm. They will meet again a week from Saturday at US Bank Arena.

The next home game for the Nailers will be Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:00pm. It will be Steelers Night as the Nailers welcome Super Bowl Champions Jeff Reed and Bryant McFadden to the arena for their game with the Trenton Titans.
