He's back: Yablonski joins Steelheads tonight
November 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that right wing Jeremy Yablonski will be back in a Steelheads sweater and in the lineup for tonight's game against the Stockton Thunder.
Head coach and director of hockey operations Derek Laxdal said, "We wanted to sign Jeremy after camp, but he had some immigration pending so we had to wait. As one of the toughest players in the ECHL and AHL, he brings an element of toughness as well as a positive attitude to the team with his leadership skills." Laxdal added, " We're glad to have him back, he's in game shape and ready to go tonight against a hot Stockton team."
The 6-1, 235-pound Yablonski attended Idaho's training camp this season on a tryout basis after spending the summer rehabilitating a shoulder injury he incurred last season. Yablonski had been reassigned to Idaho by the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals late last season and played in only three games, scoring one assist and 25 penalty minutes.
The 26-year-old had been a fan favorite during the 2001-02 season when he played for the Steelheads, then a member of the West Coast Hockey League. In 69 games with Idaho, he tallied three points and 303 penalty minutes. The Nashville Predators picked up Yablonski on waivers from the St. Louis Blues in 2003 and assigned him to Milwaukee. He played one game for the NHL's St. Louis Blues in 2003. The Saskatchewan native has also split time with the ECHL's Peoria Rivermen (now in the AHL), and the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Worcester IceCats.
