RoadRunners Hit Jackpot In Las Vegas, Win 4-2
November 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Jake Ortmeyer tallied a goal and added an assist and Kevin Reiter stopped 36 shots to lead the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 4-2 win over the Las Vegas Wranglers before 5,395 at the Orleans Arena in ECHL action Friday.
Thanks to some early penalty trouble by Las Vegas, the RoadRunners (5-6-0) struck for two first period goals. Brian Yandle scored his first professional goal on a one-time slap shot from just inside the blue line at 5:28 to give Phoenix a 1-0 lead. Justin Aikins extended the lead to 2-0 when he beat Wranglers goaltender Mike McKenna with a slap shot from the high slot at 8:40 on a two-man advantage power play.
Las Vegas (3-1-5) would finally respond at 11:11 of the second period on the power play as Marco Peluso collected his own rebound and snapped a wrist shot by Reiter to cut the Phoenix lead to 2-1. But in the final minute of the period, Liam Lindstrom found Jake Ortmeyer at the right-wing circle and Ortmeyer beat McKenna over the blocker at 19:40 to give the RoadRunners their two-goal advantage back at 3-1.
Nick Anderson got the Wranglers back to within a goal when he tipped home a loose puck at the top of Reiter's crease at 13:25 of the third period to make it a 3-2 game, but Brett Smith sealed the win for the RoadRunners as he scored on an empty-net goal at 18:40 to cap the scoring.
Las Vegas out-shot Phoenix 38-24. Reiter evened his record at 2-2-0. The RoadRunners went 1-4 on the power play while Las Vegas was 1-5 with the man advantage.
Notes: The win was the RoadRunners first at the Orleans Arena and improved their record to 1-4-0 lifetime in Las Vegas...Phoenix scored the opening goal for the fourth consecutive game. The RoadRunners started the season by allowing the first goal in five out of their first six games...Newly acquired forward Brock Hooton and defenseman Stuart Kerr will not join the team until next week.
