Stingrays Upset First-Place Gladiators

South Carolina Stingrays News Release


The South Carolina Stingrays beat the first place Gwinnett Gladiators at home on Saturday night, but took two disappointing losses on Friday and Sunday to Trenton and Columbia to finish the week 1-2.

The Stingrays trail the Charlotte Checkers by six points in the Southern Division Standings with a record of 19-17-10.

Matt Reid leads the Stingrays with 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists. Reid has seven goals and four assists in his last nine games. Davis Parley cooled off this week losing both his starts. He now has a record of 6-6-1 with the Rays along with a goals against average of 2.54.

The Stingrays special teams have struggled lately with the power play working at 13.3% and the penalty kill clicking at 84.9% in the last ten games.

The Stingrays have record is now 11-8-6, while on the road the team has a mark of 8-9-4.

Friday, February 10

Stingrays 0 Vs Trenton 5

The Titans beat the Stingrays for the third time the season. The Rays are 0-5 against teams outside their division. Scott Stirling made 34 saves for the win for Trenton.

Saturday, February 11

Stingrays 5 Vs Gwinnett 3

Matt Reid scored two goals in the third period including the game winner on the power play. Maxime Daigneault earned the win in goal for South Carolina, making 32 stops.

Saturday, February 12

Stingrays 1 @ Columbia 4

Mike Stathopoulos had a pair of goals to help Columbia beat the Rays in regulation for the first time this season. Brandon Nolan's short handed goal was the game winner. Nick Harloff had the lone goal for the Stingrays.

The Skinny: Charlotte has been tough on the Stingrays this season with a record of 7-0 against the Rays. South Carolina has a mark of 0-5-2 against the Checkers.
