Johnstown Chiefs News Release

The Johnstown Chiefs (20-18-11) went 2-1-1 last week, including wins over Reading and Toledo. The Chiefs continued to struggle with Dayton, losing in a shoot-out on Saturday, 5-4, and in regulation on Sunday, 4-3. Dmitri Tarabrin's 11 game point streak was stopped on Saturday night. The Chiefs again have a three-in-three weekend, as they travel to Trenton for a pair, then host Wheeling in a Sunday afternoon tilt.

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS (home team in caps)

Game #46 (2/07/06) Johnstown 5 - READING 4 SO Eklund 34 saves
The Johnstown Chiefs refused to surrender to the Reading Royals. Down 2-0, 3-2, and 4-3, the Chiefs battled back from each of the deficits before winning just their third shoot-out of the season. Justin Kelly had a pair of goals, and Adam Henrich picked up two assists. The win was the Chiefs second of the season against the Royals, and first in Reading.

Game #47 (2/10/06) JOHNSTOWN 5 - Toledo 3 Cey 33 Saves
The Chiefs continued their red-hot play, beating Toledo, 5-3. The Chiefs raced out to a 4-1 lead on goals by Dmitri Tarabrin (13), Brandon Elliott (5), Adam Henrich (10), and Steve Cygan (5). Toledo coach Nick Vitucci compared the fourth goal to the Edmonton Oilers of the 1980's, as crisp passing by Justin Kelly and J.B. Bittner left Cygan alone on the back door for the easy tap in. Toledo's third period comeback fell short, as Justin Kelly added the empty netter.

Game #48 (2/11/06) Dayton 5 - Johnstown 4 SO Betz 43 saves
Trailing 4-2, with less than two minutes to go proved to be no problem for the Chiefs. It was the shoot-out that was again the problem for the Chiefs, as they fell to Dayton, 5-4. After a holding call to Dayton's Dominic Noel with 2:08 left, the Chiefs pulled goalie Mike Betz. It took just 14 seconds for the Chiefs to score, setting up a dramatic finish. With just eight seconds remaining, Adam Henrich ripped a shot behind Bomber goaltender, Mike Brown, tying the game. The Bombers went on to win their fourth consecutive shoot-out against the Chiefs, and third in eight days.

Game #49 (2/12/06) DAYTON 4 - Johnstown 3 Cey 31 saves
The Dayton Bombers continued racking-up points against the Johnstown Chiefs, beating the Chiefs in regulation for the first time this season. The Chiefs raced out to 2-0 lead on goals by Jean Desrochers and Steve Cygan, but could not hold the lead, as Dayton scored on a pair of 5-on-3's, including the game winner early in the third period.
