Charlotte Checkers News Release


CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers picked up three wins in four games last week, with all the wins coming against divisional opponents. Dusty Jamieson and Juris Stals led the scoring with five points each (Jamieson 3g, 2a; Stals 2g, 3a). Goalie Chris Holt went 2-0-0 for the week including a First Star performance Sunday making 44 saves in a 2-1 win. The Checkers put some distance between themselves and the South Carolina Stingrays in the South Division standings. Charlotte is currently in fourth place with 54 points, just two behind third-place Greenville, and is six points ahead of South Carolina.

Tuesday, February 7, 2006 vs. Columbia, W, 6-2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers defeated the Columbia Inferno 6-2 in front of 3,845 fans Tuesday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Dusty Jamieson scored two goals on the night to lead the Checkers and earn the First Star of the game.

Friday, February 10, 2006 @ Augusta, W, 5-2 The Charlotte Checkers ripped off four first-period goals and got solid goaltending from Chris Holt en route to a 5-2 victory over the Augusta Lynx Friday night in Georgia. Juris Stals had a pair of goals for the Checkers, with single goals provided by Rick Kozak, Dusty Jamieson and Rory Rawlyk. Holt notched his fifth win of the season making 29 saves.

The win was the second straight for the Checkers, who are in the midst of eight games in 13 days. Friday's road game was Charlotte's only contest away from home in a current stretch of 11 home games in 12 matches.

Saturday, February 11, 2006 vs. Wheeling, L, 1-6 The Wheeling Nailers scored two goals in each period en route to a 6-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers Saturday night in front of 7,638 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Tim Verbeek lead the Nailers with two goals, one in the second period and one in the third, and was the First Star of the game.

The Nailers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Luis Tremblay and Brendon Hodge early in the first period. The Checkers got on the board as rookie Brian Teixeira scored the first goal of his ECHL career.

Sunday, February 12, 2006 vs. Augusta, W, 2-1 The Charlotte Checkers scored two goals in the second period to beat the Augusta Lynx Sunday in front of 4,462 at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Chris Holt picked up the win for the Checkers and was named the First Star of the game after making 44 saves.

- Goalie Chris Holt was recalled to Hartford (AHL) on Monday.

- The Checkers play four home games this week: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

- Dusty Jamieson is second in the ECHL with four short handed goals.

- Rory Rawlyk is sixth amongst defensemen in points with 32 (10g, 22a).

- Rawlyk is second amongst defensemen with 8 power play goals.

- The Checkers are fourth in the league at home on the power play (21.9%; 30-137).

- The Checkers are third in the league overall with a penalty killing record of 85.7%.

- The Checkers lead the league in short handed goals with 17 (next closest is Reading with 13).

- Dusty Jamieson is closing in on his point total from last season (53). He currently has 49 points and needs just five more to post a career best for a season.
