Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans were able to claim victories over the South Carolina Stingrays and Augusta Lynx in the first two matches of their three-game road trip. Trenton was able unable to sweep the weekend falling to the Gwinnett Gladiators on Sunday.
The Titans started their weekend on a right foot, ending their five-game road-losing streak, with a 5-0 win over the Stingrays. In just his third game with the Titans, Jason Norrie started it off with two power play goals in the first period to help Trenton to a 2-0 lead after one. The Titans finished 4-of-9 on the man advantage as Jim Henkel and Chris Pittman notched power play goals in the third. Kiel McLeod also tallied his first goal for Trenton in the final period. Scott Stirling got the shutout, the team's second of the year, with his 35-save performance.
Trenton traveled to Georgia for a game on Saturday against the Lynx. In their first contest in Augusta since December 2000, Trenton was able to score a 3-2 win in the shootout. All four goals during regulation were put in on the power play as both teams went 2-of-7. Mark Lee helped the Titans get on the board with ten seconds left in the first, but Augusta responded with goals by Nicholas Corbeil and Joel Stepp in the middle period. Mike Jarmuth tied it up for the Titans 2-2 at 10:16 of the third to send the game through overtime and into the shootout. There, Dustin Traylen stopped 3 of 5 shooters while Lee recorded the game-clinching goal in fifth round.
Sunday's game looked well in hand as the Titans led 3-1 heading into the third period against the Gladiators. Lee notched the first-goal in the opening period for the second night in a row for Trenton before Scott Mifsud 's power play goal made it 1-1 in the second. Henkel and Bertoli were able to light the lamp on the man advantage to help the Titans open up the two-goal lead. With 8:06 left in regulation, Jeff Campbell recorded an even-strength tally and a power tally to tie it up. For there, John Awe's power-play goal with 1:09 left allowed Gwinnett to complete the comeback and hand Trenton a 4-3 loss.
