INFERNO COACH'S SHOW: Wednesday, February 15th at 7pm. Forward Gustav Engman and defenseman Eric Nelson will be our special player guests. THE WEEK AHEAD Friday, February 17th Inferno vs. South Carolina Stingrays 7:30pm Carolina Coliseum
The Inferno is 2-4-0 this season against the Stingrays. The last time these two teams met, the Inferno won 4-1 on Sunday, February 12th. The Stingrays is in fifth place in the South Division with 48 points (19-17-10).
Saturday, February 18th Inferno @ Augusta Lynx 7:05pm Richmond Cty. Arna
The Augusta Lynx is in sixth place in the South Division with 42 points (19-25-4). This is the sixth out of nine games between the Inferno and Lynx. Columbia is 2-2-1 this season and 17-12-6 all-time against Augusta.
Sunday, February 19th Inferno vs. Florida Everblades 5:05pm Carolina Coliseum
This is the fourth of eight games between the Everblades and Inferno. Columbia is 1-1-1 against Florida this season. The Everblades is in second place with 61 points (29-14-3).
LAST WEEK Monday, February 6th INFERNO 3 Greenville 1
Brandon Nolan scored two goals to help the Inferno extend their winning streak to three as they skate passed the Greenville Grrrowl, 4-3. Nolan scored his 11th goal of the season at 6:32 with a wrist shot that soared passed goaltender Cam Ellsworth. Derek Campbell and Brian Stacey had the assists. Leon Hayward gave the Inferno a 2-0 lead at 11:51 as he tipped in a slap shot going top corner over the goalies glove with help from Travis Lisabeth and Gary Gladue. Greenville's Allan Sirois scored two goals for the Grrrowl to tie the game in the second period. At 6:38 of the third period, Campbell netted his fourth goal of the season as he brought the puck across the crease and around the net to tuck in near the post. Nolan and Stacey set him up. Nolan scored his second goal of the game at 9:57. Campbell picked up the puck in the Inferno zone and skated down ice where he dropped the puck to Nolan who blasted a one-timer off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Tim Sestito brought the Grrrowl back to within one goal at 18:50 but the Inferno held on to the divisional win. Jani Hurme recorded his third straight win as he improves his record to 4-2-0 stopping 41 of 44 shots on goal.
Tuesday, February 7th Inferno 2 CHARLOTTE 6
The Charlotte Checkers snapped the three-game winning streak for the Inferno as they beat Columbia 6-2. After a scoreless first period, Charlotte scored five goals to take the 5-1 lead at the end of two. Leon Hayward netted the first goal for the Inferno at 5:17 of the second period with assists to F.P. Guenette and Travis Lisabeth. Lisabeth scored the second goal for the Inferno at 7:19 of the third period with help from Marc-Andre Bernier. Goaltender Jani Hurme stopped 26 of 31 shots on goal in two periods. Chris Houle played the third period facing 11 shots. Charlotte outshot the Inferno 42-35.
Friday, February 10th Inferno 0 GWINNETT 6
Gwinnett's Matt York scored a hat trick to lead the Gladiators past the Inferno 6-0. After a first period battle for the puck, both teams were even with nine shots on goal. York scored two of his three goals in the second period at 11:44 and 14:33. Gwinnett added four goals in the third period with goals by Jeff Dwyer, Milan Gajic, Derek Nesbitt and York's third goal of the night.
Saturday, February 11th Inferno 0 GREENVILLE 4
The Greenville Grrrowl scored four goals by four different players to skate past the Inferno 4-0. The Inferno was 0-for-7 on the power play and was outshot 34-26.
Sunday, February 12th Inferno South Carolina
Mike Stathopoulos scored two goals to lead the Inferno past the South Carolina Stingrays 4-1. Leon Hayward scored his 26th goal of the season as he deflected the puck off of a Brian Stacey shot at 4:38 of the first period. The Inferno went up 2-0 when Brandon Nolan intercepted a pass in the South Carolina zone and beat goalie Davis Parley with a backhanded shot at 12:25. South Carolina scored at 18:46 to bring the Stingrays to within one goal to end the first period. Mike Stathopoulos scored his first of the night at 18:28 of the second period as he tipped in a shot by Gary Gladue. The Inferno outshot the Stingrays 22-6 in the second period. Stathopoulos added his second goal of the night at 1:36 of the third period with a one-timer as Nolan set him up. Jani Hurme stopped 31 of 32 shots on goal to earn his fifth win of the year.
