South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that forward Matt Smith has signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Smith, 25, recently finished his senior season at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology), where he accumulated 107 points (58g, 49a) in 120 career games. This season, he finished tied for third in Division I with 27 goals, and led the Tigers with 17 power play markers.

"He's an offensive guy," Bednar said. "He has a great shot, and he has a knack for scoring goals. He's got good offensive instincts, and he should be able to contribute to our lineup."

A 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, Smith played alongside Stingrays forward Steve Pinizzotto for two seasons at RIT. He finished tied for second in team scoring during the 2005-06 season (5-14-19), third last year (17-18-35), and second during the 2007-08 campaign (27-12-39).

Come watch Smith's Stingrays debut on Friday, March 21st as the team hosts the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's Scrubs Night, and the American Red Cross will be at the Coliseum beginning at 3 p.m. for anyone who wishes to donate blood prior to the game.
