Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Tyler Sims.

Sims (6'0/190) (22), who hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana, just completed his senior season at Providence College, where he compiled a record of 13-15-4 with a 2.53 goals against average and .907 save percentage. Sims, who was selected as Hockey East's Goaltender of the Month for this past January, leaves Providence College having established team career records in total games played by a goaltender (116) and shutouts (7). Sims, who is the son of former Royals' coach and NHL player and coach Al Sims, was recently honored by the Greater Providence Chapter of the Providence College Alumni Association with the Joseph V. MacAndrew Award. During his sophomore season, Sims, who was twice named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player. In October of that season, Sims became the first goaltender in Friar history to register back-to-back shutouts when he blanked U. Mass-Lowell in both ends of a home-and-home series.

The Royals return to action on Friday night (March 21; 7:35 pm) at First Arena in Elmira, New York against the Elmira Jackals. The game night broadcast on Friday will begin at 7:05 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
