Toledo, OH - The South Carolina Stingrays (41-18-1-6) erased two deficits to defeat the Toledo Walleye (44-14-4-2) 5-3 at Huntington Center Friday night for their record 23rd consecutive win. Forward Derek DeBlois buried a two goals and an assist.
The Walleye broke open the scoring on the power play midway through the first period as defenseman Joe Stejskal ripped a shot past the blocker of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 31 saves on 34 shots) off the left-wing circle for his fifth goal of the season.
Walleye forward Justin Daniels made it a two-goal advantage 1:23 into the second knocking a rebound past Jakaitis. The Stingrays cut the lead in half at 4:34 when forward Patrick Gaul redirected a shot from defenseman Wade Epp past Walleye goaltender Jeff Lerg (L, 34 saves on 38 shots).
DeBlois made it 2-2 early in the third period lifting a shot over the glove of Lerg off a feed from forward Brandon Wong. Defenseman Michal Cajkovsky added the second assist. Just over two minutes later, the Walleye jumped back in front off a man-advantage marker from forward Troy Schwab at 5:51. DeBlois erased the Stingrays' second deficit at 11:57 beating Lerg between the legs off a partial breakaway setup by defensemen Drew MacKenzie and Cajkovsky.
Forward Wayne Simpson completed the comeback and shoveled in the game-winning marker with 4:11 remaining with help from Epp and Rowe. Rowe sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:55 from DeBlois and forward Joe Devin. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-1 on the power play while the Walleye went 2-for-3.
