March 27, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Moline, IL (March 27th) - Playing for the final time this season, Wichita (30-27-2-6) fell on Friday night by the final of 4-0 to Quad City (33-27-4-3) at i-Wireless Center. The Thunder offense was kept in check by Parker Milner, who improves to 7-0-0-0 against Wichita and claims his first shutout against the Thunder this year. Wichita closes the regular-season series against Quad City at 5-6-1-0 and has lost four in a row.
After a scoreless first period, things opened up a little bit in the second. Despite being outshot 14-8 in the frame, Quad City got on the board first. Wichita had a power play stopped short when too many men was called. The Mallards took advantage after Mike Monfredo came out of the sin bin. Justin Fox fired a one-timer off a feed from Matt Duffy, which just got past Tim Boron to the glove side. Both teams had four power play chances through 40 minutes, but the Thunder couldn't connect on their fourth after Lee was sent off for boarding.
The Mallards found the net three times in the third en route to a 4-0 win. Joe Perry scored his first of two at 9:45, winning a race to the puck and fired a sharp angle shot that got over Boron's shoulder to increase the lead to 2-0. Mario Lamoureux made it 3-0 at 16:54 as he outmuscled a defender in front of the Thunder cage and recorded his 19th of the season. Boron was lifted with two minutes left, but the Thunder couldn't get one past Milner. Perry intercepted a pass at the red line and found the empty-net that made it 4-0.
Wichita was 0-for-5 on the man advantage. Quad City went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Wichita plays its final road game of the season tomorrow night against the Missouri Mavericks starting at 7:05 p.m.
