The Royal Road Ahead: Reading at Indy Fuel
March 27, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
- This evening, the Royals kick off a late-season five-game road trip at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana, where the team will face the Indy Fuel for the sixth time this season. So far, Reading has compiled a 5-0-0-0 record against the Fuel.
- This marks the fourth and final visit of the regular season for the Royals to Indianapolis. However, after tonight, Reading and Indy still have two more games to go against one another, as they'll face-off in the final two games of the regular season for both teams-on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.
- The Royals are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Florida Everblades on Wednesday that dropped the team's record to twenty-four games over .500 at 41-17-4-2=88 (.688), which places Reading in second place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference of the ECHL. The loss to the Everblades expanded the gap between the second place Royals and first place Florida to seven points with eight games for both teams yet to be played.
- The loss to the Everblades on Wednesday snapped a four game unbeaten streak (3-0-1-0) for the Royals, who have compiled a record of 4-3-2-0 in the last nine games; 8-4-3-1 in the last sixteen; 20-4-3-1 in the last twenty-eight; and 32-9-3-1 in the last forty-five.
- Reading is currently riding a five game unbeaten streak on the road (3-0-2-0). The team has compiled a record of 21-6-4-0 on the road this season. This season marks the fifth straight year that Reading has won twenty or more games on the road. The team record is twenty-two victories away from home ice, which the team has accomplished twice: 2010-11 (22-12-1-1) and 2013-14 (22-12-1-1).
- Tonight's game is the 500th road game in the fourteen year history of the team. Reading has compiled a record of 240-210-49 in the prior 499, which translates into a .530 historical win percentage on the road.
- In the last six seasons under Coach Courville, the Royals have compiled a record of 122-69-20 on the road, which translates into a .626 win percentage.
- Wednesday's loss marked the fourth time in a span of nine games that the Royals have given up a goal within ninety seconds of the opening face-off: (i) on March 7, Toledo scored 1:15 into the contest; (ii) on March 13, Elmira scored 0:18 in; and (iii) on March 14, Kalamazoo scored 0:37 in; and (iv) on Wednesday, the Everblades scored 0:33 into the 5-1 loss. Reading went 0-3-1-0 in those games. (Over the course of the season, the Royals have given up a goal within the first ninety seconds of the game seven times, and Reading has compiled a record of 2-4-1-0 in those games.)
- Conversely, the Royals have scored a goal within first two minutes of the opening face-off three times in the last five games: (i) on March 15, the Royals scored on the team's first shot 1:07 into the first period against the Kalamazoo Wings; (ii) on March 20, Reading scored on the team's first shot 0:53 after the opening face-off in Brampton; and (iii) on March 22, the Royals started the scoring 1:49 into the game against the Beast. Reading won all three of those games (3-0-0-0).
- With respect to Indy, in the second game played between these two teams (on November 23, 2014 at Santander Arena in Reading), the Royals scored 1:50 into the game in a 2-1 win over the Fuel. In the next game between the two clubs (on December 17, 2014 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, the Fuel responded by scoring 1:17 into the game, although Reading won that game 6-4. And, in the most recent game between the two teams (on January 30, 2015 in Indianapolis), Reading scored 1:44 into what proved to be a 3-2 win for Reading.
- Overall, Reading has compiled a record of 13-13-4-0 when allowing the game's first goal (and the team has gone 28-4-0-2 when scoring first).
- Wednesday's loss to the Everblades marked the tenth time this season that Reading has given up five or more goals against. Reading has compiled a record of 1-8-0-1 in those games.
- The 5-1 loss to Florida also marked the fourth time this season that Reading has been held to one goal or fewer. The Royals are 0-4-0-0 in those games.
- Reading's lone goal on Wednesday was scored by defenseman Brett Flemming with just 2:25 remaining in regulation time. That goal extended Flemming's current point streak to three games (2g-2a).
Flemming has had at least one point in nine of his last twelve games (3g-9a=12pts).
- Defenseman Mike Marcou recorded the primary assist on Flemming's goal. Marcou leads all defensemen on the Royals with thirty-five points (6g-29a) in sixty-two games, which places him tied for fifteenth amongst defensemen in the league in scoring.
- The secondary assist on Flemming's goal was recorded by David Marshall. That assist was Marshall's 100th point (40g-60a) as a Royal in his 110th game with the team. Marshall is the eleventh player in team history to reach the century mark in points for Reading. (He is one point behind Greg Hogeboom, who is the tenth leading scorer in team history.)
- Goaltender Connor Knapp made 28 saves (many in spectacular fashion) in Wednesday's loss to the Everblades. That game snapped an eight game unbeaten (5-0-2-1) streak for Knapp.
- The Royals' penalty killers have blanked the opposition's power play in five of the last six games (and in thirty-eight of the sixty-four games played so far this year), including Wednesday's loss to Florida (0-4).
The PK has knocked off twenty of the last twenty-one chances with the man advantage for the opposition over the last six games (95.2%).
- Reading's PK has faced (and successfully killed) a lengthy two-skater disadvantage in each of the last three games. On Wednesday, the Everblades had 1:21 of five-on-three power play time, which Reading knocked off.
- Reading's power play was held off the board in Wednesday's loss (0-2). That marked the thirtieth time this season that the Royals' power play has been blanked. Reading has compiled a record of 20-9-1-0 in those games.
