Stingrays Ink UMass-Lowell Standout Jake Suter

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, signed defenseman Jake Suter, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Suter, 24, recently completed a four-year collegiate career at UMass-Lowell totaling 31 points (four goals, 27 assists) in 153 games and helped the River Hawks claim the 2013 Hockey East Championship. In his senior year, the Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, native recorded career-highs in assists (11) and points (12).

Suter arrives to the Stingrays from a well-known hockey family. His dad, Gary, played 17 years in the National Hockey League (NHL) netting 203 goals and 845 points in 1,145 games with the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks. Jake's uncle, Bob, was a member of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Olympic hockey team and his cousin, Ryan, is currently in his 10th NHL season and is a member of the Minnesota Wild.

The Stingrays continue a season-high seven-game road trip Friday, March 27 against the Toledo Walleye at 7:15 p.m. at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. The Stingrays continue the journey Saturday, March 28 at Indianapolis and Sunday, March 29 at Evansville. The road trip wraps up with a trio of contests in The Sunshine State April 2-4 with tilts against the Orlando Solar Bears and Florida Everblades.

The Stingrays close the regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 11 against the Evansville IceMen at 7:05 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night. The first 1,000 fans receive a 2014-15 Stingrays team photo courtesy of Sheila Lauffer of Data Imaging and a new member of the Stingrays Hall of Fame will be inducted during the first intermission.
