
Stingrays Collect Team-Record 3,835 Teddy Bears, Defeat Road Warriors 2-1 in Shootout

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (11-10-0-4) defeated the Greenville Road Warriors (14-9-0-1) 2-1 in the shootout on Teddy Bear Toss and Sing for Santa at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. The Stingrays collected 3,835 stuffed animals for the Salvation Army Angel Tree, a new team record.
The Road Warriors broke the scoreless tie at 10:03 of the second period when forward Tyler Brown smacked a backdoor pass from forward Trevor Parks past the right pad of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 26 saves on 27 shots). Stingrays forward John Mitchell tied the contest and sent the teddy bears flying at 13:19 redirecting a shot from defenseman Garrett Haar past Road Warriors netminder Jason Missiaen (SOL, 42 saves on 43 shots). Forward Nathan Walker added the second assist.
Defense shined for both sides in the third period and after a brief overtime skate, the Stingrays moved into a shootout for the sixth time this season. Forwards Brandon Hynes and Andrew Cherniwchan lit the lamp in the first two rounds and forward Wayne Simpson buried the game-winning marker in the fifth round. Both teams finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play.
The Stingrays hit the road tomorrow, Sunday, December 14 to take on the Gwinnett Gladiators at 2:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday, December 19 to host the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on Family Four Pack Friday!
