Stingrays Edge Warriors in Shootout, 2-1
December 13, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - For the second straight game, Jason Missiaen posted a season high in saves (42 stops), but the Greenville Road Warriors (14-9-0-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, fell in a shootout to the South Carolina Stingrays (11-10-0-4) in a 2-1 decision on Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The loss snapped Greenville's four-game winning streak, but extended their point streak to a season-high five games.
In the five-round shootout, Brandon Hynes, Andrew Cherniwchan and Wayne Simpson each scored for the Stingrays, while Trevor Parkes and Josh Nicholls notched goals for the Warriors.
Following a scoreless first period, the Road Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead at 10:03 of the middle frame courtesy of Tyler Brown's sixth goal of the season. From the right side, Parkes grabbed the puck and sent a crisp pass to the front of the net, where Brown redirected a shot past the blocker of goaltender Jeff Jakaitis.
South Carolina answered just over three minutes later when John Mitchell evened the game in his season debut with the "ËRays. From the left point, Garrett Harr sent a wrist shot through traffic that was deflected past Missiaen from the doorstep for his first goal of the season.
In overtime, Harr was whistled for an interference minor at the 1:37 mark, which put Greenville on a two-minute power play, but the Road Warrior were unable to capitalize.
Greenville finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Jakaitis (6-1-0) made 26 saves for his sixth straight win.
The Road Warriors were outshot 44-27.
