Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (13-8-0-0) took down the Stockton Thunder (10-14-1-0), 6-3, in a heated and chippy contest on the Eagles second annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
Just 4:06 into the first frame, Eagles forward Greg Gardner sent the teddy bears flying with a power-play goal from the point to give Colorado the early 1-0 advantage. At the 13:08 mark Eagles forward Vitalijs Pavlovs beat Stockton netminder Kent Simpson to gain the 2-0 lead over the Thunder.
Three minutes and thirty-three seconds into the second period, Stockton forward Mike Pereira tucked the puck past Eagles goalie Doug Carr off an Eagles turnover to cut into Colorado's lead, 2-1. Pavlovs responded, beating Simpson glove-side with his second goal of the game to gain the 3-1 lead, 13:16 into the second. Less than two minutes later forward Brock Nixon netted his sixth goal in three games with the help of linemate Nathan Moon to take the 4-1 lead. At the 16:01 mark of the second, forward Chris Duszynski fired a shot from the face-off circle that bounced off of the goal post and past Simpson to give Colorado the 5-1 edge.
Just over three minutes into the third stanza, the Eagles lead was cut into again as Thunder forward Roberts Lipsbergs found the back of the net from the hashmarks. Just over one minute later, Stockton forward Ryan Hayes capitalized on a man-advantage, slowly chipping away at the Eagles lead, 5-3. With just 1:32 left in the third forward Nathan Moon found himself on a short-handed breakaway to net the sixth and final goal of the night for the Eagles on an empty-net, with an assist from Carr, who claimed the win with 30 saves on 33 shots.
On December 14th take advantage of the Eagles Family Pepsi 4-Pack during the first Sunday matinee game of the season. Doors open at 2 pm and the puck drops at 3:05pm.
