Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (12-8-0-0) offense proved to be too much against the Stockton Thunder (10-13-1-0) on Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center, leading the Eagles to an 8-5 victory. The organization was proud to retire Eagles legend Riley Nelson's #12 into the rafters during a pre-game ceremony that celebrated his career and dedication to the Eagles organization.

Stockton forward Mike Pereira started the scoring early on a break-away off of a perfect two-line pass from line-mate James Henry. With 11:52 expired in the first, Eagles forward Trent Daavettila found Collin Bowman in the slot who waited patiently before beating Thunder goalie under his blocker to even the game at 1-1. One minute and fifty five seconds later, Eagles forward Chris Duszynski put the Eagles on top 2-1 on a tip from a Collin Bowman rocket fired from the point. Thunder forward Sebastian Collberg responded to tie up the game at 2, setting up from the right of Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders, and sniping the puck into the back of the net.

Twenty-two seconds into the second period, Collberg shot a laser over the right shoulder of Saunders to help the Thunder regain a 3-2 lead. 1:41 into the period, Eagles forward Chris Knowlton redirected a pass from fellow forward Vitalijs Pavlovs to knot the game back up at 3-3. With 7:12 gone in the second, Eagles forward Brock Nixon snuck a Nathan Moon pass past Stockton goalie Shane Owen to give the Eagles the lead again. Nixon flew down the right wing on an apparent breakaway with 8:24 remaining in the second, then proceeded to find line-mate Greg Gardner who shot a twine seeking missile past Owen, leaving the Eagles with a 5-3 lead. Stockton forward Jack MacLellan responded by beating Saunders low on a power play to pull within one with 3:10 remaining in the second. Sixteen seconds later Stockton tied up the game on a snipe from Thunder forward Garet Hunt, beating an outstretched Saunders on the left post.

Eagles forward Darryl Bootland broke the temporary hiatus in scoring 11:56 into the third period, burying home the Eagles seventh goal on the third leg of a textbook tic-tac-toe passing play from himself, Daavettila, and line-mate Johnathan Parker. With eight seconds remaining, Nixon completed his hat trick on an empty net, giving the Eagles the 8-5 advantage.

Riding on the back of the team's first hat-trick of the season, the Eagles closed out the second game of a four-game homestand against the Thunder.
