LONG BEACH, Calif. - Playing their third road game in three nights, the Idaho Steelheads downed the Long Beach Ice Dogs 2-1 to move into second place in the ECHL's National Conference, West Division Sunday evening. Idaho concludes its road trip with a 2-1 record.

David Morisset and Bobby Russell each scored a goal and had an assist for Idaho. Morisset got the Steelheads on the board late in the first period with his fifth goal of the season, and third in three games. Jonathan Zion and Russell assisted on the goal at 17:12.

Idaho stretched its lead to 2-0 in the second when Morisset and Russell collaborated again. Russell deflected Morisset's slap shot past Ice Dog goalie Olivier Michaud at the 11:55 mark. Long Beach pulled Michaud after the second tally in favor of Chris Madden, who held Idaho scoreless the rest of the game, stopping all eight shots he faced.

Long Beach climbed back to within one at 2:43 of the final period when Chris Kenady notched his sixth goal of the season, converting on a two-on-one break against Idaho netminder Frank Doyle. Doyle and the Idaho defense stiffened the rest of the way and withstood a late Long Beach charge. With Idaho a man down for the last 1:49 of the game, the Ice Dogs pulled their goalie, but couldn't convert on the 6-on-4 advantage.

Doyle improved his record to 8-2, stopping 36 of the 37 shots Long Beach fired at him. Michaud suffered the loss and his record is now 1-3.

Idaho returns home for a three-game series with the Alaska Aces coming to the Bank of America Centre with games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
