Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators ran their unbeaten streak to 7 consecutive games, using a balanced offensive attack to down the Augusta Lynx 5-2. Wes Mason had a 2 goals and an assist, Mike Omicioli had three helpers and David Bararuk added one goal and one assist for the home team.

The IceGators got some help from the Augusta Lynx defense to take a 2-0 first period lead. At 3:34 Jake Ortmeyer scored his 2nd goal of the season on a wrist shot from the left point to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. Augusta goalie, Matus Kostur, never saw the puck as he was screened by his own defense and was irate after the goal. David Bararuk made it 2-0 at 8:48 on a power play goal from the right circle. Bararuk's 3rd of the season came on a slap shot that deflected off the stick of Lynx D-Man Steve Munn and over the shoulder of the bewildered Kostur.

The Gators increased the lead to 4-1 after 2 periods on goals by Wes Mason and Pascal Pelletier. After a Sean Connolly power play goal at 3:23 cut the lead to 2-1, the Gators went to work. At 9:44 Chris Thompson stole the puck deep in Lynx territory, his wrist shot from the right circle hit the post, bounced off Kostur right to Wes Mason who tapped it in for his 5th of the year. The Gators tallied on another power play opportunity, at 11:52 Bararuk pounced on a rebound and fed Pascal Pelletier for a one timer, his 3rd of the season and a 4-1 Louisiana lead.

In the 3rd period each team scored once, Wes Mason adding his 6th of the year and Louis Goulet getting his 4th for Augusta. Rookie goaltender Nathan Marsters won for the 2nd time in two starts stopping 29 of 31 Lynx shots. With the win the Gators move into 2nd place in the South Division with a record of 6-1-1 (13points). The Gators are unbeaten in their last 7games and have not lost a game since opening night. On the power play, the Gators were 2-4, the Lynx 1-6.
