Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators missed a chance to move into first place in the South Division of the American Conference by dropping a 4-1 decision at home to Texas on Sunday afternoon. The loss ends Louisiana's unbeaten streak at 7 games.

Mistakes were directly responsible for the first two Wildcatters goals as two turnovers in front of Kyle Kettles wound up in the back of the net. At 1:08 of the 1st period Troy Smith lost the puck, it was picked up by Lou Dickinson who beat a startled Kettles to make it 1-0 Texas. In the 2nd period it was the same scenario, this time Jake Ortmeyer turned the puck over and Andrew Ianiero buried it at 5:07 to give the Wildcatters a 2-0 cushion. Ianiero would add a power play goal, his 7th of the season, at 11:11, to give Texas a 3-0 lead after 2 periods of play.

The third period was dominated by the IceGators, outshooting Texas 19-5, but the home team could only manage one goal past Texas net minder Phil Osaer. Randy Dagenais' wrist shot from the blue line wound it's way through a maze of bodies into the net at 9:48 to bring Louisiana within two. It was the 2nd goal of the year for the D-man from Union College. The rest of the game belonged to Osaer, who wound up as the #1 star of the game, making 40 saves on 41 shots, including 18 of 19 in the 3rd period. The Gators out shot Texas 41-31 for the night. Texas was 1-3 on the power play, Louisiana 0-3. With the loss the Gators record is now 6-2-1.
