Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
Atlantic City, NJ â Fraser Clair tallied a pair of goals including the game-winner and Derek Edwardson added three assists to lead the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to a 5-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays before 3027 at Historic Boardwalk Hall in ECHL action Saturday. Atlantic City is now 6-0-1 in their last 7 games.
Scott Horvath got Atlantic City on the board at 12:19 of the first period when he lifted the loose puck on the right side over South Carolina goaltender Maxime Daigneault to give the Bullies a 1-0 lead. Clair made it 2-0 with his first tally of the evening, taking a centering feed in the slot from Dustan Heintz and ripping a slap shot by Daigneault at 16:14 of the first.
Clair notched his second goal of the game off a turnover by South Carolina's Doug Andress at 2:06 of the second period. Off the turnover in the zone, Edwardson centered a pass to Clair who beat Daigneault through the pads to give the Bullies a 3-0 advantage. Vince Macri increased the Bullies lead to 4-0 when his slap shot from the right point beat a screened Daigneault at 15:16 of the period.
South Carolina would strike back with a pair of power play goals in the third period. After Heintz was issued a match penalty, the Stingrays struck first at 4:52 as Mark Ardelan ripped a slap shot by Bullies goaltender Jake Moreland to make it a 4-1 game. Joe Tenute brought the Stingrays back to within two goals at 4-2, tapping a centering feed across the crease from Rich Peverly by Moreland at 8:14 on the power play. Paul Caponigri gave the Bullies some addition insurance as he beat Daigneault from the left-wing circle at 14:33 of the third to cap the scoring.
South Carolina out-shot the Bullies 33-32. Moreland made 31 saves to earn his seventh win of the year. The Bullies went 0-5 on the power play and failed to record a power play goal for the first time in seven games.
