Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers beat the Idaho Steelheads 2-1 in front of 4,704 at the Orleans Arena on Saturday at the Orleans Arena. Left Wing Adam Huxley scored the game-winning goal with 0.6 seconds left on the clock for the 2-1 win. Huxley also added an assist on Dustin Johner's game-tying goal. Goalie Sebastien Centomo picked up the win with 25 saves. The Wranglers set a new team record in the third period with 30 shots on goal for the period. The Wranglers will now head to Louisiana to take on the Ice Gators at 5:05 pm on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first period, Idaho took a 1-0 lead as David Morisset scored just 2:11 into the second period.
The Wranglers were held scoreless until the 11:37 mark of the third period. Forward Dustin Johner snapped a wrist shot from the right-wing circle past Idaho goalie Colin Zulianello, tying the game 1-1. The Wranglers took the lead just before time expired in the game. With 0.6 seconds remaining in the game Adam Huxley fired a shot past Zulianello for the game-winning goal. Huxley's goal was his first of the season in only his second game of the year. The Wranglers set a new team mark with 30 shots in the period, to out shoot the Steelheads 41-26 for the game.
The Wranglers will head out on the longest road trip of the season. The team will play a total of eight games in 14 days before returning home. The trip will feature stops in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Florida and a final stop in Alaska. The trip spans over 13,600 miles and over 70 hours of travel time alone. The Wranglers will travel through four different time zones and from the two farthest points in the ECHL (Florida to Alaska). Last year the Columbia Inferno traveled a total of 13,200 miles in the entire season as the Wranglers logged 31,000 miles on the road. The Alaska Aces traveled over 61,000 miles last season. Once the Wranglers finally return from Anchorage, they will head back out three days later for a two-game set in Boise, ID. Las Vegas will host their next game at the Orleans Arena against the Greenville Grrrowl on Tuesday, December 14th.
