Ice Dogs Defeat Undefeated Bakersfield, 5-2

November 21, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (8-3-0) became the first team to beat the Bakersfield Condors (9-1-1) this season in regulation, knocking off the West Division leaders by a score of 5-2.

Bakersfield got on the board first, midway through the first period on a goal by Kevin St. Jacques. Just 12 seconds later, the Ice Dogs answered when Joe Cardarelli notched his 4th goal of the year to tie the score. Paul Spadafora gave the Ice Dogs a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded goal late in the first, and Long Beach just continued to roll.

Early in the second period, Chris Kenady put the Ice Dogs up 3-1 and then scored another just 40 seconds into the 3rd. Bakersfield would make things interesting, cutting the lead in half with under 4 minutes to go in the game, but Joe Cardarelli scored his second of the game to add the insurance and give the Ice Dogs the 5-2 win.

Chris Madden, making back-to-back starts, turned aside 46 shots, to improve to 7-1-0 on the season. Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 36 shots despite taking the loss for Bakersfield.

The Ice Dogs will play again tomorrow night, November 21, when they take on the defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho Steelheads in the first meeting of the season between the two teams. For ticket information, call (562) ICE DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
