Aces roll before yet another sell-out

Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Aces jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period, then coasted to a routine 5-2 victory over Victoria Saturday in front of their third sell-out crowd in five dates at Sullivan Arena.

The game started 38 minutes late as Alaska played host to its 10th annual Military Appreciation Night, which drew 6,345 to Sullivan Arena. The Aces channeled their nervous energy into two quick goals, Mike Lee's third of the year just one minute into the game and Chris Minard's ninth of the season, which came on an Alaska power play at 4:16. Minard shares the league lead in goals scored with Florida's Damian Surma and Greenville's Carl Mallette. Mike Scott fired home a rebound with 4:27 left in the first period to extend the margin to 3-0 and chase Victoria starter David Brumby, who unlike Wednesday, did not return after allowing three goals on eight shots.

Charles Linglet greeted Brumby's replacement, Jason Stone, with the first of his two goals of the night at 19:52 of the opening frame, capping a near-perfect period played by the Aces, who limited the Salmon Kings to five shots in the first 20 minutes and 20 for the game, a season-best effort. Linglet pushed the lead to 5-0 just 4:26 into the second period with his third goal of the series and fifth of the year, and Alaska basically cruised from that point forward, although the Aces did allow a pair of Victoria power play goals over the final 20 minutes.

Blue Bennefield ended Peter Aubry's bid for a second straight shutout at 4:02 of the third period, and Rob Voltera's fifth goal of the season with 61 seconds remaining accounted for the final margin. Aubry picked up his fourth straight win with 18 saves as Alaska collected its sixth win in seven games while sending the Salmon Kings (2-8) to their sixth consecutive defeat. The Aces improve to 8-5-1 overall and 4-1 at home, good enough for second place in the West Division.

Tomorrow's series finale begins at 1:30 p.m. will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD and made available via video webcast at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Following the game, fans are invited to participate in the "Sunday Skate with the Aces," sponsored by KeyBank. Alaska hits the road next week to Boise for three games against defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho. All three games start at 5:05 p.m. ADT and will be carried by B2 Networks, but the first two, Wednesday, November 24, and Friday, November 26, will be broadcast live on KFQD's sister station, KHAR AM 590.
