Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

ESTERO, FL – The Florida Everblades scored two goals late in the third period to tie the game at four, and then defeated the Pee Dee Pride in a shootout Saturday night at Germain Arena.

The Pride scored the first goal of the game just 4:32 into the contest. Chad Spurr took a long-range slap shot from the right-wing circle. Craig Kowalski made the save, the rebound kicked all the way to the left wing side where Eric Naud gathered it in and pushed it across the line for his first goal of the season.

Florida countered with a fluky goal at 12:14. Matt Pagnutti dumped the puck in from the red line, and it knuckled in on Pride goaltender Nick Boucher.

The puck took a weird bounce right in front of the crease, and eluded Boucher to tie the game at 1.

It was the first goal allowed by the Pride in 153:11.

The Everblades took the lead with just 21.1 seconds remaining in the first period. Ernie Hartleib had the puck behind the Pride net, and banked the puck off of Boucher's back, and it went across the line to make it 2-1.

The Pride tied the game at 6:11 of the second period, ending an 0-for-12 drought on the power play. Kowalski looked to clear the puck out of the zone himself, but he ended up putting the puck right on the stick of Allan Sirois, who blasted it into the wide open net for his fifth goal of the season.

The Pride opened up a two-goal advantage, scoring two goals in the first 4:27 of the third period. At 2:44, Adam Elzinga took a shot from the left point that went through traffic and beat Kowalski to the five hole for the defensemen's first goal of the season.

Then, at 4:27, Mark Mullen gathered in a pass from Jeff Szwez after a Florida turnover and beat Kowalski with a quick back-hand shot for his sixth goal of the season.

Florida climbed back within one at 12:57. Brad Church skated out from behind the net and took a quick shot from the near post. Boucher got a piece of the puck, but it was not enough to keep it out of the net as it went over the line for Church's third goal of the season.

Church struck again, this time on a power play at 16:02 to tie the game at 4, and send it to overtime. The initial shot by Tim O'Connell went wide of the net, but Church was on the near post to blast it home for his second of the night.

Neither team was able to score in the five minute overtime session, sending the game to a shootout.

In the shootout, the Pride scored one goal on four attempts, while the Everblades scored three times on four shots to pick up the extra point.

Pee Dee is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Augusta for a 7:00 match-up with the Lynx. Catch all of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5, starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 6:40.
