Stars defenseman Andrew Hutchinson dished out two assists, as Texas fell to 11-5-1-2 on the road and slid to 0-3-0-2 in their last five contests. Texas will host Houston at 7:30 PM on Wednesday at Cedar Park Center.
Texas broke a scoreless tie at 17:05, when right wing Colton Sceviour lifted a backhand pass through the Manitoba defense, springing Mathieu Beaudoin for a breakaway. Beaudoin moved in on goaltender Daren Machesney and beat him with a backhand shot for his ninth goal of the season, giving the Stars a 1-0 first-period lead.
Texas jumped out in front with a 2-0 lead at 3:34 of the second period. Stars winger Travis Morin found Fabian Brunnstrom in the high-slot of the Moose zone. Brunnstrom rifled a shot past the glove of Moose goalie Daren Machesney for his first goal of the season with Texas. Manitoba answered back with three goals over a 4:44 span to finish the period with a 3-2 lead. Sergei Shirokov redirected a centering pass from Tommy Maxwell at 7:54, beating Texas goalie Todd Ford at 7:54 and trimming the Stars lead to 2-1. The Moose tied the game 2-2 at 11:48, as Guillaume Desbiens scored his sixth of the year. Desbiens scooped up a loose puck off the Texas end boards and fired the puck into the Stars net. Left wing Michael Grabner capped off the second-period rally, pushing the Moose ahead of the Stars with a one-timer from the high-slot that beat Texas goalie Todd Ford between the legs. Grabner's seventh goal of the year came at 12:38 and gave Manitoba a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.
Texas tied the game 3-3 with an early third-period goal by Travis Morin. All-Star defenseman, Ivan Vishnevskiy, carried the puck through center and over the left-wing line into the Manitoba zone. Vishnevskiy set up Morin for his fifth goal of the year, his third in as many games, at 5:35 of the third period. Manitoba tied the game with only 33 second left in regulation. Veteran forward Mike Keane banked the puck off the skate of Texas goalie Todd Ford, scoring his eight goal of the year from behind the Texas. The final goal in regulation tied the game 4-4 and forced overtime.
After a scoreless overtime the two teams went to a shootout. Moose forwards Marco Rosa and Marty Murray each scored in the shootout, while Ivan Vishnevskiy scored in the shootout for Texas. Moose goalie Daren Machesney stopped four of five in the shootout, while Stars goalie Todd Ford stopped three of five in the shootout defeat.
